Shoulder Pain Treatment in Hull
Shoulder pain can make reaching, dressing and sleeping difficult. Sometimes the problem is in the shoulder itself; sometimes it’s coming from the neck. Finding out which is the first step to getting better.
Shoulder problems we see in Hull
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which also makes it easy to strain. Pain can come from the tendons of the rotator cuff, the joint itself, or be referred from the neck or upper back.
We commonly assess:
- Pain when lifting your arm out to the side or overhead
- A painful shoulder at night, especially lying on it
- Stiffness that limits reaching behind your back
- Shoulder pain after lifting, gardening or sport
- Pain that spreads from the neck into the shoulder
- A shoulder that has been sore for months without improving
What treatment involves
Shoulder or neck?
Dr Gosselin examines both your shoulder and your neck to find the true source of the pain. This matters: shoulder pain coming from the neck needs a different treatment from a rotator cuff problem.
A clear diagnosis
You’ll get a plain explanation of what’s wrong and what to expect. If you need an ultrasound or MRI scan or a specialist opinion, we can write to your GP, arrange a private consultant appointment or refer you for a scan.
Treatment
When appropriate and safe, treatment may include joint mobilisation, soft-tissue work and a progressive exercise programme. For most tendon problems, the right exercises are the most important part of recovery.
Staying on track
We’ll show you how to manage everyday tasks and sleep more comfortably while the shoulder recovers.
Ergonomic advice
Repeated reaching and poor workstation set-up can keep a shoulder irritated. You’ll get ergonomic advice on desk and keyboard height, mouse position, keeping frequently used items within easy reach, overhead tasks at home and work, and how to sleep comfortably without lying on the painful side.
Three visits.
That’s all it should take to know if your treatment is actually working. Research suggests that if treatment is working, most people see real change within the first few visits. Not thirty visits. Three.
No change? That’s not a reason to keep going — it’s time to reassess, investigate further, or try a different approach.
Good care isn’t measured in appointments booked. It’s measured in results — and you’ll know by visit three.

— David B.Shoulder pain: your questions answered
Can you treat a frozen shoulder?
We can assess whether you have a frozen shoulder and help with pain and movement. Some cases also need input from your GP, such as an injection, and we’ll tell you if that’s likely to help.
Why does my shoulder hurt more at night?
Lying on the shoulder compresses irritated tendons. We’ll give you positions that ease it.
Do I need a scan?
Not usually at first. If your examination suggests a tear or another problem that a scan would clarify, we can arrange a referral.
How soon will I know if it’s working?
Within three visits. If there’s no real change, we’ll reassess or arrange further investigation.
